This tax credit is available only for 2021 and 2022 and applies to you if you, your spouse or a dependent relative are over 65 years of age with principal residence in Ontario.

If you make qualifying renovations to a home that the senior lives in, you can claim a refundable tax credit of 25% on up to $10,000.

This means you could get a tax refund of up to $2,500 even if you do not have any taxes owing.

The renovations must either allow the qualifying senior to be mobile or more functional within the home OR improve safety and accessibility.  Some of the more common eligible renovations include bathroom grab bars, wheelchair ramps, lifts, elevators, handrails, walk-in bathtubs.  Click the link for a complete list of eligible renovations https://www.ontario.ca/page/seniors-home-safety-tax-credit#section-1.

The cost of routine repairs and maintenance, esthetic improvement, appliances, furniture, devices, attendant and security services are not eligible for this tax credit.
